Many of the projects undertaken by Walsh Construction involve restoration,
renovation or new construction at historic sites. These types of
work demand extensive technical knowledge of historic construction
in addition to the ability to perform under many different and challenging
conditions. The company has had the privilege of renovating some
of Washington DC's most visited landmarks including the Washington
Monument, the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, the White House,
and the U.S. Capitol, as well as a large percentage of the many
historic buildings on the Mall and Federal Triangle.
In addition to renovation and restoration, Walsh Construction has
also built some of the city's newest historic sites such as the
Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, the National Japanese American
Memorial and most recently, the National World War II Memorial.
The company is led by President/CEO James V. Walsh. He continues
the legacy of his father, William V. Walsh, founder of Walsh Construction.
Mr. Walsh earned a B.S. at Duke University (1974), joined the company
in 1976, and has worked in virtually every capacity in the field
and the corporate office.
The company prides itself on its stability and experience. Many
Walsh employees have been with the company over ten years, and several
in the 20 to 30 year range. The company's Project Management team
is highly skilled in managing all construction delivery methods,
including design-build, task order, etc. and incorporate all the
latest project management software including scheduling, project
management, CADD coordination and integration, etc.
The Walsh field staff is a seasoned crew, experienced in working
under challenging conditions and meeting tight deadlines, delivering
innovative solutions to the complex problems often encountered in
renovation and historic projects. Further, Walsh has the ability
to self-perform several key trades including demolition, cutting,
patching, concrete, carpentry, door and window work, etc. to provide
maximum project value and control.
William V. Walsh Construction has an annual volume of over $60 million
and with its committed and tenured staff is set to continue the
tradition of building Washington's historic sites for many years
