Description:
The project involved complete exterior repairs. Exterior repairs
to stone included removing existing caulk, repairing cracks, repairing
bent plate anchors, removing and replacing deteriorated stone, cleaning
and recaulking. Portions of exterior curtain wall were resealed
and tested. Terrace planters work included removal and resetting
existing stone; removal of landscaping and soil, and waterproofing
and repair to concrete surfaces; new waterproofing, soil, irrigation,
and landscaping.
The project had demanding conditions. Work was
performed in 11 segments, sealing off each construction area so
that the museum could remain open and functional. This required
extensive coordination with building management and protection of
the facilities and the public. In addition, the unique scaffolding
and staging plan by Walsh saved substantial cost and impact to owner.
